5 of my family’s favorite Southern-inspired dishes
Hey, friend!
Welcome to The Creative Soul where I’ll share Southern-inspired recipes. I’m launching this blog right before Christmas and like many of you, instead of working, I’m looking forward to spending time with friends and family.
The hope is that beginning in 2025, I’ll update this space weekly with a new recipe. But until then, I want to share some tried and true meal ideas that my family loves.
Enjoy!
Fried Chicken
My family watches lots of football and there’s not a better game day food than fried chicken. Watch Bryan from America’s Test Kitchen make one-batch fried chicken. Make sure to check the show notes for the seasoning recipe. You won’t want to miss that!
Classic Southern Pound Cake
When I make this cake for my family, it does not last long. Complete with a crumbly top and a rich buttery flavor, I bet it won’t last long in your house either. Ice cream, whipped cream, fresh fruit or dusted with powdered sugar — you can’t go wrong with this pound cake. And if you want to save some for later, cut the cake in half and freeze the other half.

Country Wild Rice with Sausage
One of my favorite television chefs, Kardea Brown, came up with this banger of a recipe and let me tell you — it’s dee-licious! It’s great either as a main dish or a side and it doesn’t take long to make. Perfect on a cold, winter day!

Maple-Bacon Brussels Sprouts
Even the pickiest eater in my house loves these savory-sweet veggies.

Crockpot Cinnamon Applesauce
My family loves waking up to the smell of this recipe. Four ingredients dumped into your crockpot to make this tasty applesauce — that’s it!
