Flaky Buttermilk Biscuits Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 2 tablespoons baking powder

  • 1 teaspoon sugar

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 6 tablespoons cold butter, grated

  • 1 cup cold buttermilk

Instructions:

  1. Set your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.

  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.

  3. Add the grated butter to the dry ingredients. Use a fork or your hands to gently mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  4. Pour the buttermilk into the mixture and stir gently until the dough just comes together. Avoid over mixing to keep the biscuits light and fluffy.

  5. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface. Pat it into a rectangle about 1/2 inch thick. Fold the dough in half and pat it down again. Repeat this process 2-3 times to create flaky layers.

  6. Use a round biscuit cutter or a floured glass to cut out biscuits. Press straight down without twisting for the best rise. Re-roll any scraps to make more biscuits.

  7. Place the biscuits on the prepared baking sheet, slightly touching for softer sides or spaced apart for crispier edges. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown.

  8. Remove from the oven and serve warm. Optionally, brush the tops with melted butter for extra flavor.

Enjoy! 🧈
